Brooklyn's genre-defying Oneida takes their primary cues from '60s pysch, garage and punk bands (think 13th Floor Elevators, The Seeds and especially the MC5), but throw in plenty of heavy, bluesy '70s stoner rock (think Blue Cheer, Foghat, etc.), plus dashes of jerky synth-pop, avant-garde jazz and kraut-rock. Oneida are spiritual descendents of Neu!, Amon Düül and Faust.
The band has released a sprawling catalog of albums, EPs and singles - their most recent being 'Rated O', a triple-disc monster of beautiful/psychotic repetitions. After recently destroying all-comers with a killer highlight set at Primavera Sound, Bobby Matador and friends make a rare trip to these shores, now a 5-piece with new permanent members Shahin Motia (Ex-Models) and Barry "Snaps" London.
Oneida were a highlight of this year's Primavera Sound festival. For those who weren't in Barcelona (or were, but can't remember), all of the O's set is available to download here:
